Support for Parents
I also offer support for parents and involvement in your child’s psychological therapy would be agreed on an individual basis. Some joint or separate parental sessions are often recommended.
Working with parents on their own may also be appropriate, for example, I frequently work with parents of young children and also provide training and resources to help parents develop skills and strategies.
My Therapeutic Approach
I draw on a number of therapeutic approaches depending on the individual needs of your family. These include:
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
CBT is a talking therapy that can help manage problems by changing the way we think and behave. It's most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems. - Parent Training
Supporting parents to deal with children and teenagers with behaviour difficulties. - EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a specialist therapy which is particularly helpful in dealing with blocked and/or distressing events and memories, with the goal of reducing distress in the shortest period of time. - Compassion Focused Therapy
This is an integrated therapy drawing on a range of techniques and philosophies designed in particular to help those who suffer from high levels of self-criticism and shame. - Systemic Techniques
Systemic therapy, often referred to as Family Therapy, is an approach that works with families and those who are in close relationships to foster change. These changes are viewed in terms of the systems of interaction between each person in the family or relationship. - Motivational Techniques
A range of techniques focused on improving an individual's motivation to change.
